How Does Weed Delivery Work?

Sometimes you need some weed but you don’t want to leave the house. It’s all good, we gotchu! Thankfully, delivery for weed is legal in a large portion of Oregon, and Moss Crossing is glad to help you get your favorite cannabis products delivered. If you have only ever placed an order for pickup at the dispensary or shopped in-store, you may be curious as to how weed delivery works. We’ve pulled together the details below to get you well on your way to placing your first cannabis delivery order.

Where Can Weed Be Delivered in Oregon?

Even if you don’t live in the same county as a dispensary, you may still have access to weed delivery. All counties in the state of OR can choose whether they want recreational cannabis delivery at all, but medical delivery is allowed throughout the state. However, each county can also decide if they will allow cannabis to be delivered from outside their own jurisdictions. The Oregon Liquor & Cannabis Commission (OLCC) recently created this measure for inter-jurisdictional deliveries, and each county has the opportunity to allow these deliveries.

How Does the Weed Delivery Process Work?

1. Pick Your Dispensary

Several weed dispensaries now offer delivery. Therefore, you may have options when it comes to where you get your weed delivery from. Keep in mind, each dispensary can have its own delivery service area, time frames for delivery, and delivery fees. Do a bit of research to determine which dispensary is going to offer what you want at the best price and time frame. Dutchie hosts a number of dispensaries on their platform, and lists the hours of delivery and current wait times for each location.

2. Pick Your Products

After navigating to the dispensary’s online menu, pick the products you want and add them to your virtual shopping cart. After adding your selections, double-check the shopping cart and the products you have chosen to ensure they are the correct options.

3. Enter Your Customer Information

With your selections double-checked and your total available, enter your information. Most dispensaries will request your name, address, date of birth, and phone number. You can also add special instructions for the dispensary or delivery driver as well. If you are a member of the dispensary’s loyalty program, make sure to enter your loyalty info in “special instructions” so you can get your rewards!

4. Place Your Order

Once your order is submitted, all there is left to do is wait for your buds to arrive. Delivery times can vary depending on several factors, including:

  • Which dispensary you order from
  • Your proximity to the dispensary
  • The volume of delivery orders the dispensary has at any given time

Most dispensaries strive to get delivery orders to customers within an hour or two, but this can depend on the place and even the time of day. For example, if you place an order later in the day or on 4/20 when orders are more common, you may have to wait longer for your delivery.

5. Accept Your Delivery

When your delivery driver arrives, the individual that placed the order will have to be present to accept it. You will show the driver your government-issued photo ID to verify your name and date of birth and then pay for your order with cash. Some dispensaries take credit or debit cards—Moss Crossing does—but not all do, so make sure to check with the dispensary on what forms of payment will be accepted..

How Much Does Weed Delivery cost?

When you place an order for weed delivery, you will pay the same price for cannabis products as you would in-store. Keep in mind, the same state-level sales taxes (20 percent) will still be applied to your purchase price. Additionally, each dispensary can set its own price for delivery as well, and these prices can vary significantly depending on the dispensary you choose. For example, at Moss Crossing, we currently do not charge a fee for delivering your products as long as your purchase is $40 or more. However, this may not be the case with every dispensary.

What About Delivery Limits?

Dispensaries do have to be mindful of limits set forth by the OLCC. The laws state that dispensaries may only deliver to a single physical address one time per day. Additionally, the daily sales limits for cannabis and cannabis products that you face in stores remain the same with delivered cannabis products. The current limits for how much recreational cannabis a customer can purchase within a day include:

  • 2 oz. of usable cannabis
  • 16 oz. of solid-form cannabinoid-based products
  • 72 oz. of liquid-form cannabinoid-based products
  • 5 g. of concentrates or extracts
  • 5 g. of cannabinoid-based products for inhalation
  • 4 juvenile cannabis plants
  • 10 cannabis seeds

Where Can Weed Be Delivered?

In Oregon, weed can only be delivered to private residences (apartments or homes). Delivery is not legally allowed to commercial businesses, such as hotels or motels, dormitories, or bed and breakfasts. Further, deliveries cannot be made to any residence that is located on publicly owned property.
